H. Hughes & Son Ltd., London, 7 inch sextant, pierced metal frame with black finish, signed brass arc with inset silvered scale, the graduations from -5 to 125, micrometer drum adjustment, index lamp, multiple shades for horizon and index mirrors, sighting scopes, and plastic handle with battery compartment, all in finger-jointed walnut box with a certificate from the National Physical Laboratory with a stamp from its director, C.G. Darwin dated 1947.
CONDITION:
The set seems mostly complete as there are few empty spots within the fited case. Mirrors and green glass shades are in good condition. C.G. Darwin was a physicist who served as the director of the National Physical Laboratory during World War II. He was the grandson of Charles Darwin.
